Dolpo is a remote region, most of which is now protected by Shey
Phoksumdo
National Park. The Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges bound it in
the east and
south and on the west by the Jumla district. It is isolated from
the rest of
Nepal by high passes to the south and it is also known as Hidden
Land. It has
been considered the last enclave of pure Tibetan culture left on
earth.
Opened to trekking in 1989, the Dolpo region is hard to match for
it's pristine
beauty and rugged charm, where one can still have opportunity to
meet the nomadic
people and their life style almost untouched and unexplored. The
Himalayas
provide an endless variety of landscapes, culture and interesting
people. It even
becomes more interesting and fascinating with every time you return.
People are very pleasant by nature, are of Tibetan descent who follow
the
pre-Buddhist Bon religion and their language is closely related
to Tibetan. The
elevation of the trails is from 1650 meters to 5136 meters above
sea level.
