Kanchanjunga, at 8598m, is the third highest peak in the world
and second
highest in Nepal. This trek starts with the slow ascent on a wide
trail through
the mossy rhododendron forest, with fascinating views of both sides
to the Arun
Koshi and Tamour Koshi drainages and north to Makalu. This region
is highly
dominated by Limbus and Rais and a few live elsewhere. In this route
first we reach the
north side of Kanchanjunga than after the southern part of Gunsa,
which is a
Tibetan village but they are now Nepali Citizens, the expedition
has to take a
walk through a large forest to a bridge across the Gunsa Khola.
The prayer
flags bedecked the houses of Gunsa. In Khangbachen you will approach
the flocks
of blue sheep grazing in the valley or the slopes of the Traffic
Mountains. The
views abound in all directions in Lhonak are dramatic. Take a morning
hikes up
to the ridge of the north the Pang Pema. A climb of 200m to 300m
leads to vantage
point with views of Kanchanjunga, Wedge Peak (6750m), Twins (7350m),
Pyramid
Peak (7168m) and Tent Peak (7365m). The itinerary is below:
